School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is Tuesday April 23! A HUGE Thank You to all of our Clark-Pleasant School Bus Drivers. Thanks for all you do that goes above and beyond on a daily basis.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to both Treble Clef and Choraliers who performed for the ISSMA State Organizational on Saturday at Shelbyville High School and earned a GOLD rating! 🏅 The Indiana State School Music Association annual adjudication includes performing three different approved songs and a choral sight-reading portion to test students' music literacy skills. Treble Clef was just one point shy of earning gold in the Sight-Reading portion and Choraliers earned a gold rating in the Sight-Reading portion as well as their performance! Choraliers also stepped up to compete in the highest level at Organizational, Group 1, this year which included learning and performing more challenging music and more difficult choral Sight-Reading. We are so proud of their accomplishments this year! If you would like to attend Iridescence, Expressions, Shades of Blue, and Rhythm Masters ISSMA performances they will be at Franklin Central High School this upcoming Saturday the 27th. Iridescence/Expressions will be performing at 10:20AM and Shades of Blue/Rhythm Masters will be performing at 4:00PM.

The Clark-Pleasant School Board has been recognized by the Indiana School Boards Association with an exemplary governance award for 2023. The award is for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to professional learning and student success. The awards are based on certain criteria such as goal setting to elevate student achievement outcomes.

School Board Recognition! Dr. Edsell and the Clark-Pleasant School Board recognized Noah Grady at Wednesday evenings school board meeting. Noah was a finalist in the IHSAA state diving championships earlier this year. Congratulations Noah!

JOHNSON COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!! Last night the Girls Track and Field team won the Johnson County Championship with a score of 157 points. This ended Center Grove's 20 year streak of winning this meet. There are too many outstanding performances to list them all, but here are the athletes/relays that won their respective events: Elnora Stevenson- 100 meter dash, 4 x 100 relay, long jump (new county record) Sydney Rodgers- 4 x 100 relay Marissa Kratowicz- 4 x 100 relay Emma Gill- 4 x 100 relay Tori Jackson- 800 meter run (new county record) Go Warriors!

All of our choirs here at WCHS have been working hard to prepare for our annual adjudication at the Indiana State School Music Association events happening this month. This concert serves as an opportunity for our students to present a portion of their ISSMA performance for our home audience before competing. Becoming Butterflies! Mrs. Evans' Science students are discovering the magic of metamorphosis with live butterfly kits. We're witnessing caterpillars transforming into beautiful butterflies as we dive into the Life Cycle of a Butterfly reviewing for our upcoming Science ILearn.

Exciting news from FFA! FOUR of our members have been named State Winners in the 2024 Indiana FFA Proficiency Contest! Proficiencies are based on students' Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs, which are work based experience programs within agriculture. These members completed extensive record books and portfolios (20+ pages) about the skills learned and hours worked at their positions. The following four members will be advancing to the National FFA Proficiency Contest in October! They will be recognized as State Winners at the 2024 Indiana FFA State Convention this summer! Josie Kelsay - Outdoor Recreation Brody Polesel - Diversified Livestock Production Cian Cribbs - Agricultural Education Sydney Pryor - Veterinary Science In addition, Ollie Taylor was also named a Top 4 finalist, earning 3rd Overall in the State with his Vegetable Production proficiency. 5-YEARS IN A ROW!!! Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation Receives National Recognition for Music Education Support Distinction Awarded for Fifth Year in a Row! Whiteland, IN – April 9, 2024 – Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CPCSC answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. “I am super excited to announce that CPCSC is one of only 17 school districts in the State of Indiana named a NAMM "Best Communities for Music Education", stated Whiteland Band Director, Peter Sampson. “Congratulations to all of the music teachers, our amazing students, and of course our incredible school administration. This is definitely a recognition worth celebrating”, said Sampson. Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music: After two years of music education, researchers found that participants showed more substantial improvements in how the brain processes speech and reading scores than their less-involved peers and that students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school but also to attend college as well. In addition, everyday listening skills are stronger in musically trained children than in those without music training. Significantly, listening skills are closely tied to the ability to: perceive speech in a noisy background, pay attention, and keep sounds in memory. Later in life, individuals who took music lessons as children show stronger neural processing of sound: young adults and even older adults who have not played an instrument for up to 50 years show enhanced neural processing compared to their peers. Dear Clark-Pleasant Families, This is a final reminder that a total solar eclipse will take place, Monday, April 8, 2024. This eclipse will reach across 16 states but will be most prominent in Central Indiana, especially in Johnson County. Therefore like many nearby school districts, we are making plans for a live synchronous E-Learning Day on 04/08/2024. Learning will continue online, Monday and we hope it will be a great educational opportunity for our students to learn more about the solar system. We are making this decision out of an abundance of caution as the eclipse will take place in Indiana for over several hours. Additionally, we are being told by local emergency management officials that there will be a significant influx of visitors coming to Johnson County during this time period creating major concerns with transportation and traffic congestion.
