Willy Wonka Visits PCES!
Last Thursday, "Willy Wonka", (Brandi Speight), visited 2nd graders in the gymnasium. Mrs. Speight has been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to 2nd graders and concluded the book recently. The PCES PTO purchased a Hershey's candy bars for every 2nd grade student that were then wrapped in a wrapper to look like it is a Willy Wonka candy bar, like in the book. The RA team passed these out to each 2nd grader. 6 of the bars will had a "golden ticket" placed inside for an extra prize.
The goal is always to drum up the excitement around books and reading and what better time than now approaching IREAD and all the standardized testing that our students take.

Clark-Pleasant Schools Plan for Solar Eclipse
Dear Clark-Pleasant Families,
We would like to make you aware that a total solar eclipse will take place April 8, 2024. This eclipse will reach across 16 states but will be most prominent in Central Indiana, especially in Johnson County. Therefore like many nearby school districts, we are making plans for a "live," synchronous E-Learning Day on 04/08/2024. We are making this decision out of an abundance of caution as the eclipse will take place in Indiana for over several hours. Additionally, we are being told by local emergency management officials that there will be a significant influx of visitors coming to Johnson County during this time period creating major concerns with transportation and congestion. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to your respective school building administrators.
Sincerely,
Dr. Timothy Edsell
Superintendent

PCES Announces New Assistant Principal,
During Thursday's special board meeting the Clark-Pleasant school board approved the hiring of new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Penny Inskeep. She is a Whiteland High School grad and a former Assistant Principal. Welcome Principal Inskeep!
Good Evening PCES Community,
With great excitement I'd like to share that our CP school board approved the hiring of our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Penny Inskeep. She is a Whiteland High School graduate and a former Assistant Principal. Please welcome her. Dr. Oliver
Greetings PCES Parents,
This is a very important reminder that TODAY at 5:00 p.m. we will be holding an IREAD informational meeting for all of our grade 2 parents and all parents of students that were invited to Warrior Reading Camp on Tuesday and Thursday. This meeting will be in the cafeteria. Your child is welcome to attend but not required. Pizza will be provided. This meeting is extremely important. Please plan to attend.
IREAD is a high-stakes test mandated by the state of Indiana to assess your child’s reading and comprehension skills. High stakes for this particular assessment means that if your child does not pass the IREAD test while in grade 3, he/she will be required to participate in intensive reading instruction for the remainder of the school year. A child (in grade 3) who does not pass IREAD 3 initially will have another opportunity to take the test during the summer window.
Students in grade 2 that PASS the IREAD test will NOT have to retake this test again. Students in grade 2 that do not pass the test in grade 2 will take the test in grade 3 in March as a retake.
So, TODAY 5:00 p.m. ALL grade 2 parents and parents of students invited and/or attending Warrior Reading camp see you at 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Dr. Oliver, Principal

Cards Teaching Kids!
The Pleasant Crossing kindergarten team is is feeling a lot of love thanks to a unique Valentines project they started. Teacher, Savannah Maxwell got the idea to do a social media post asking for people to send Valentines cards to her class and send they have. The large US and World Maps on the hallway walls indicate where the cards have been coming from. The goal is to get a card from all 50 states. They've even gotten cards from Iceland and South Korea. . Once students and their families got involved the cards have literally come from around the world.
Kindergarten teachers say the project has given them a chance to help students understand how the mail system works and they've been able to learn about other states and countries because of the colorful cards that have been flowing into their tiny mailbox in front of their classroom door.
