Malfoy, Octa & Viper, who are starting their training as therapy dogs, visited CES Friday. They're trying to get acclimated to students and larger settings. They're 3 of the kindest and gentlest dogs one could ever want! The 10 week puppies were doing well with the commands!
STEMVersity!
Keeping Kids Curious is the goal of STEMVersity. Ray Crowe STEM Teacher, Briona Brown hosts the bi-weekly student group which explores the four prong STEM concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
"STEMversity is furthering the joy of STEM to younger students", says Ms. Brown. "The program is great in treating the students involved as proper little scientists, so much so that rather than refer to them as students they call them scholars and inform the kids that while students are forced to go to school, scholars choose to go to school to further their education". Ms. Brown says the students get to come in, be greeted as scholars and then they "dress for success" by putting on their lab coats, goggles, and lanyards. She says in just the two weeks that we have been doing this I've seen a kindergartener that has been quite reserved and quiet so far this year, get super engaged and always has his hand up to answer questions and in answering them he uses a loud projected voice. It is clear that he feels both seen and heard. Ms. Brown thinks that aspect is probably most important.
We caught up with the after school group on Thursday as they participated in lessons on aerodynamics, drag and force. The STEMVersity professors help students learn everything from definitions to hands on experiments like trying to use air to keep balloons aloft. The kindergarten through second graders seem to really enjoy this great learning opportunity which can make challenging concepts much more fun.
WCHS Tennis Nets Big Win!
On Thursday, we played at Franklin. The varsity won 5-0. The JV won 12-1. We will travel to Terre Haute for a tournament on Saturday.
Dear Clark-Pleasant Families,
We would like to make you aware that a total solar eclipse will take place April 8, 2024. This eclipse will reach across 16 states but will be most prominent in Central Indiana, especially in Johnson County. Therefore like many nearby school districts, we are making plans for a synchronous E-Learning Day on 04/08/2024. We are making this decision out of an abundance of caution as the eclipse will take place in Indiana for over several hours. Additionally, we are being told by local emergency management officials that there will be a significant influx of visitors coming to our county during this time period creating major concerns with transportation and congestion.
The Butler University astronomy department projects the partial eclipse will begin in Indianapolis around 1:50 pm and that the total solar eclipse will occur at 3:06 pm and end at 3:09 pm. The partial eclipse will end at 4:23 pm.
While learning will continue online for this day it will be a great educational opportunity for our students to learn more about the solar system. We will provide more information as the date approaches but if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to your respective school building administrators. For more information on the path and viewing times of the eclipse please click on the link below.

Professional Development!
On this E-Learning Day, Clark-Pleasant elementary teachers and administrators spent the afternoon in a professional development session at WCHS. DEI Coordinator, Ruby Butler presented activities for the group which included shaking hands with someone they didn't know to help give educators a feel of what it might be like for a new student trying to meet others. "Our District Mission is to create learning environments where ALL STUDENTS can reach their potential", says Ms. Butler. "Today, teachers participated in professional development to learn how to teach and reach culturally and linguistically diverse students. By implementing these proven brain-based strategies, teachers will be better equipped to engage all students!", she said.

Whiteland Senior Soars High with Eagle Scout Project
WCHS Senior, Logan Bast, recently completed his Eagle Scout Project which benefits his school district. Logan worked with CPCSC Operations Director, Sam Arnes on coming up with and completing the project located in the 8-acre wooded area between Sawmill Woods and Break-O-Day Elementary. “I had a lot of different projects in mind but when Sam mentioned that I could do this one I thought it was where I could do the most good”, said Logan. “We’re really proud of Logan”, stated Arnes. “Anytime a young man is willing to do something this challenging and to give back to his community it’s a tribute to his family, teachers and scout leaders”.
The project consisted of rebuilding the classroom environment inside of the wooded space where Logan and those who volunteered also helped clear the trails by cutting and moving fallen trees and clearing overgrowth to create wider paths. Signs were also made to help identify some of the tree species found in the nature area. The classroom environment consisted of constructing new picnic style tables and benches all built by Logan’s troop, BSA Troop #615. Logan proudly wears a bright red neckerchief that differs a bit from his fellow troop members, that’s because it belonged to his grandfather when he was a scout.
Logan will be recognized for his efforts at a future Clark-Pleasant school board meeting.
Tennis Team Wins Invitational!
