Introducing Pearl!
Clark-Pleasant is partnering with Ultimate Canine to add Pearl to the Warrior family. Pearl graduated on July 13th and has done great! Therapy dogs, like Pearl, have been proven to increase wellness and regulation skills for staff and students. Therapy dogs in schools help students learn social skills, prevent social isolation, aid in co-regulation, and decrease anxiety and depression. Schools that have therapy dogs have also seen a rise in attendance as well as reading. The University of California conducted a study involving therapy dog reading programs and found that struggling students reading to a dog were able to increase their reading fluency by 12-30%.
Pearl will work with 9 certified handlers who can work with her in the school buildings or in the community. Our certified handlers from WCHS are Dana Griffin, Emily Pierce, and , from CES Dr. Brian Sloan, Heather Risley, and Alex Bailey, from CPMS Amanda Siemens, from CPELC Kristin Parisi, and Erica Garrity, Jeni Prenatt, and Dr. Connie Poston.
Pearl made her first appearance before the school board on Tuesday evening. Welcome Pearl!

Welcome Dr. Edsell!
Clark-Pleasant Welcomes New Superintendent
Dr. Timothy Edsell Begins Tenure in Whiteland
July 6, 2023
Whiteland, IN-
The Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation Board of Trustees has announced Tim Edsell, Ph.D., former Nineveh Hensley Jackson leader, as its next superintendent. Dr. Edsell fills the vacancy of departing superintendent, Dr. Patrick Spray. Board President, Dave Thompson, says they didn’t have to look far to find the perfect fit, “To find someone of Tim’s caliber and leadership abilities, right here in the county is a win-win for our school community”, stated Thompson. Edsell has a Bachelors in Mathematics, a Masters in Administration from Ball State and a Ph.D. from Indiana State. He’s spent the last 9 years as superintendent in the Trafalgar district where academics have improved in all 4 buildings. He oversaw a $40 million multi-faceted construction project and supervised completion of a new elementary school. “I feel fortunate to have had some wonderful, yet challenging opportunities to this point in my career. I look forward to continuing and building upon the successes of the Clark-Pleasant Board in this new role, says Edsell.
Edsell, who began his career as a math teacher, has also worked as a principal, and superintendent in several Indiana school districts. He also brings higher education experience serving as an Adjunct Professor for Indiana Wesleyan and University of Southern Indiana. “I believe, especially for our high school students, we need to always be pointing them to their next educational opportunity. For some that’s a 4 year college for others a vocational certification or other opportunities to learn and to grow their skills and passions”. One of his most proud accomplishments is implementing a successful, state-recognized, Farm-to-Table program. Some of the things that helped Dr. Edsell stand out to the board was his creation of a diverse marketing plan attracting over 400-transfer-tuition students and annually increasing student enrollment; implementing K-12 STEM courses and Robotics teams while collaboratively negotiating competitive teacher contracts providing annual pay increases. During his tenure as a principal he received national and statewide recognition, including a National Blue Ribbon School Award, Indiana Four Star School Award for 4 consecutive years. During his 30 years as an educator he’s also served as a head football coach and assistant baseball coach at several schools. Dr. Edsell loves spending quality time with his wife and three daughters, son-in-law and grandson. Look out Warriors he’s a Steelers and Nittany Lions fan.
“It’s an honor and privilege to have been selected as the next superintendent of the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation. I believe in the 3 R’s of Education: Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. We will strive to provide exemplary leadership, effective communication, creative visionary skills, true collaboration, and sound fiscal responsibility. I am ready and very excited to serve the Clark-Pleasant School community, Let’s Go WARRIORS!”
