Dear Families and Community Members, We are excited to invite you to a free Youth Mental Health First Aid training session, thanks to our Project AWARE Grant! This important program is designed to empower adults with the knowledge and skills needed to support young people who may be experiencing mental health challenges or crises. During this training, you'll learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial support, and connect youth to professional care when necessary. Whether you're a parent, teacher, coach, or simply care about the well-being of our community's youth, this course is invaluable. CPELC is Ready for a BIG Welcome for Little Students! Clark-Pleasant Early Learning Center doesn't begin classes until Monday but here are some pictures from our back-to-school night Thursday. The turnout was amazing and students were so excited to meet their teachers.

Jumpstart to Kindergarten Camp helped Pre-K students who attended CP last year get a jumpstart by attending their new school for three half-days allowing them to familiarize themselves with their school and staff. The 3-day camp helps prepare kindergarteners for the transition.

Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Indiana Immunization Coalition (IIC) will be onsite at Whiteland Community High School- North Building Gymnasium, to host an optional immunization clinic for students. We are breaking down barriers and bringing vaccines to you. New Administrators Announced! Three new administrative positions were announced during Wednesday evening's school board meeting. Andrea Lakin will become the new Director of Special Education. Nicole Osborne will lead the new K-5 Trauma & Behavioral Program and Steffen Lewis was named Assistant Principal at Whiteland Elementary. Congratulations!

On this Thankful Thursday, I want to say "Thank You!" to Dr. Edsell, Dr. Shipp, and the Clark-Pleasant Community School Board for surprising me last night at the school board meeting with an award for Recognition Of Excellence in Education. I went to the school board meeting to share an annual review of all the wonderful things CPEF has done this last school year and to hear my contract for an additional role I will be doing this upcoming school year get voted it, but I was completely unaware that I was also getting an award. What a wonderful surprise! I am so grateful of all the recognition I have received from the school in the last month. I am truly honored.

Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation School Board Vacancy The Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees will be working to fill a vacancy due to the death of Mr. David Thompson effective June 27, 2024 to complete his term of office which extends through the 2024 calendar year. Indiana law authorizes the remaining members of the board to fill the vacancy by a majority vote and must do so within thirty (30) days after the vacancy occurs. Further, the person appointed must also meet the same qualifications for the position as the member who vacated the position. Persons interested in filling this vacancy must be 21 years of age, pursuant to policy, live in Pleasant Township and submit a letter of interest. Interested parties are encouraged to submit a letter of interest as requested. Letters should include why you are interested in serving on the board; past involvement with the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation; and any qualifications and background that would make the individual a viable candidate. A Statement Regarding the Passing of Clark-Pleasant School Board Member, Dave Thompson. With deep sadness, we announce the passing of School Board Member, Dave Thompson. Dave was not only a school board member but a man who was passionate about and fought for the constant improvement of educational opportunities in this school corporation. His mission was first and foremost to prepare our students for life but as a full-time teacher and coach for 40 years, he also spoke up for the rights of teachers, administrators, and Clark-Pleasant families. Dave held the Pleasant Township seat on the board and just last year had served as board president. He attended Indiana State University, obtaining bachelor's and master’s degrees in Education. He taught at Clark-Pleasant Middle School for 39 years and coached high school wrestling and football for 40 years. As a coach, he is a member of the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame. He had 4 wrestling state champions during his tenure as coach. Dave and his wife, Susan, a long-time English teacher at Whiteland Community High School, have two daughters, Brooke and Brette. Brooke teaches English at WCHS and serves as president of The Clark-Pleasant Education Association (CPEA). Brette, who also taught Biology at WCHS lives with her family in Fort Wayne. Mr. Thompson also leaves behind Isabella, Eleanor, and Vivian, his granddaughters. “I will miss Dave Thompson. If you looked in the dictionary under “educator”, Dave’s name would be there”, says superintendent, Dr. Timothy Edsell. “He was a teacher, coach, mentor, and board member but most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. No one loved Clark-Pleasant Schools more than Dave Thompson”. Fellow board member and friend for 50 years, “Butch” Zike says all of Dave’s students thought the world of him, “Dave’s goals were not based on winning and losing but on making a kid’s life better”, said Zike. Sun Meals brings Summertime Smiles! Free Summer meals continue at Pleasant Crossing, Break-O-Day, and Grassy Creek elementary schools. Kids under 18 eat FREE and it's just 2 dollars for adults. Lunch begins and ends, Monday through Friday, at the times listed below. The meals will be available through July 12th. Reminder: Free meals for kids are being served weekdays at 3 locations in the district (Adult meals $2.00). We are excited to partner with the Johnson County Public Library to host the Bookmobile at each of our SUN Meals serving sites in the coming weeks! Hope to see you there!

SunMeals Smiles! Thank you to everyone who made it out to the SunMeals kickoff Monday! We served lunch to 224 people and had more visitors outside as well! It appears this summer lunch program will be a great success. Thanks to our Food Services team for designing some awesome props so that our young students could enjoy themselves. A special shoutout to Craig Neihaus, Barb Noble, Patty Doyle and of course our Food Services Director, Lauren Jones. Also a BIG Thanks to Elevated Elegance for our balloon decor and to the Greenwood Ace Hardware for donating the potting soil for the seed planting. Looking forward to more events like this in the future as we continue to look for innovative ways to serve nutritious meals to our students!

2024 WCHS Graduation Ceremony Time Change! Dear Clark-Pleasant School Community, Due to rain predicted for Saturday our 2024 Commencement is being moved from 10:00 am to 8:30 am. Gates will open to the football field starting at 7:30 am. Shuttle service to the stadium will be available for those who wish to use it starting from the transportation building at 7:15 am. SUN Meals! Summer fun is just around the corner. We're kicking off SUN Meals (formerly Summer Servings) with a cookout, games, activities, and prizes!
